Next on our lineup of talented up and coming artists we have Heyseuss. Born in New York but raised in Georgia the self proclaimed “ATLien” is ready to take the rap game by storm. Heyseuss found himself getting more into rapping after his friend, B Steez, started forcing him to record every morning at 9am and they would record on Garageband. Not the conventional introduction into music, but his friend seen something in him that would hopefully one day turn him into a star. Today Heyseuss finds inspiration in commercial rap giants such as Drake, Lil Wayne, and Big Sean. He is on his way to follow in their footsteps with his reach and his unique sound.

Here is a short excerpt from the interview with Heyseuss:

JG: What do you think about current state of Hip Hop right now ?

Heyseuss: It’s definitely not what it used to be, but what I love most is how hip hop isn’t stagnant. It’s constantly changing. Some might say hip hop is dead. A lot of the young cats coming up not rapping hip hop, it’s more so what sounds good and what the people wanna hear, which I’m ok with too. It will definitely be making a comeback though!

JG: What does music mean to you? Is it therapy, form of expression etc.?

Heyseuss: You know how people say laughter is the best medicine? I feel the same about music. It’s been a lot of times where music has changed my opinion on something or just made me realize how blessed I am, or even got me out of a tough situation. It’s both therapeutic and a form of expression. I know when I’m writing music, I try to put whoever’s going to be listening in my position so they can feel how I felt when I wrote the song. Music is a beautiful thing, honestly the best thing since sliced bread.

Heyseuss is a force to be reckon with, he is a young motivated rapper who is promisingly optimistic about the state of Hip Hop and its future. He is poised to leave his mark on the “Rap Game.” His 2019 EP “S.C.H.L.U.” is what I like to call a time travel project because when you listen it takes you to another place. The New Yorker in him jumps out in his effortless flow. My favorite tracks from the project are the title track S.C.H.L.U. and S.O.T.T. The EP is a must listen, you can find it on all platforms.

Heyseuss prides himself on his versatility and the rawness in his raps that can be relatable to people everywhere. His vulnerability is what I admire most, that’s not something you come across too often, it’s an admirable trait for an artist to trust his audience in that manner. He tries not to box himself in mentally with an end goal with music, but he said his first love was film so he would love to do a soundtrack one day. For up and coming rappers like him his words of advice are to 1. WRITE YOUR OWN RAPS, 2. DO MORE SHOWS AND CONNECT, 3. DROP THAT SONG, 4. SHOW LOVE. AS for the future of Heyseuss, the only thing he is worried about is enjoying the ride, go give his music a listen and stay tuned for his next project.
